That's a whole lot less than the first set of bids on the original eBay item. The Proctor police originally listed it, calling it a La-Z-Boy. Bids soared above $40,000. When the recliner producer came after them claiming it wasn't actually a La-Z-Boy, the police closed to auction and restarted it under a more factually correct title.
The second sale didn't seem to go so well.
The chair became mega-famous after Proctor, Minn. man "drove" it home from the bar drunk. He hit a parked vehicle and police seized it.

So who gets the 10 grand, the easy chair maniac or the Proctor Police dept? ..You can bet it won't be the drunk; ...this terror of the highways needs to have his abominable missle confiscated so that he can see the error of his ways, right?
But it brings up the question of why property should be confiscated at all, even for more serious misdeeds. Why not just let a fairly imposed fine and/or jail sentence do the job? Why beat a dead horse even more? Often times seized property is lop-sidedly more valuable than the seriousness of the act, and, add to that, questionable instances of abuse by police and administrators in the disposition of seized property. ...Be interesting to learn what happens to the proceeds of the DWI easy chair.
