Terrorism charges against eight more MN Somalis

Categories: Somalis

Federal prosecutors unsealed the charges against the men today. That brings the total number of Minnesota men charged in the Somali terrorism probe to 14.

The charges allege that the men attended training camps with al-Shabaab, an Islamist group with ties to Al-Qaeda, and that they fought on behalf of al-Shabaab. The men also helped provided funding to support others who traveled to Somalia to fight.

The news comes after a sixth man was indicted last week in what has become a two-year probe into American Somali ties to terrorism. Last year, Shirwa Ahmed, of the Twin Cities, is believed to have become the first American suicide bomber when he allegedly blew himself up in Somalia.
