University of Minnesota Greeks order members to study harder

The Interfraternity Council at the University of Minnesota has boosted its minimum 2.75 GPA requirement for all fraternity members to 2.85. The new rule goes into effect in the spring.
IFC's vice president for academics, Justin Snesrud, said the bar was set higher because 85 percent of campus Greeks were already meeting the current benchmark.
"The IFC made the changes to promote higher grades and challenge students to work harder in school," he tells the Minnesota Daily. Students who fail to make the grade generally face social probation.
The Panhellenic Council, which governs sororities, doesn't set campus-wide academic standards for its members, leaving such rules up to individual sororities.
Chad Ellsworth, the university's coordinator for fraternity and sorority life, said he welcomed the news.
It's all a long way from John Belushi's antics in Animal House.
