Reinke says he slipped an arrow into an already-dead record buck
Hunter Troy Alan Reinke's found a story and he's sticking to it: The stunning, record-breaking eight-point buck he's accused of shooting illegally was already dead from a gunshot wound when he slipped an arrow into its carcass on Halloween night.![]()
That's what Reinke told a judge in Goodhue County District Court on Thursday when he pleaded not guilty to 13 counts of illegally taking a deer. He's accused of shooting the buck with a gun before firearms season opened.
DNR also accuses the Cannon Falls man of taking took two deer -- a buck and a doe - earlier in the season and failing to tag or register either of them.
Reinke originally told DNR investigators that he took the eight-point buck on Halloween with a bow. But after examining the carcass, DNR said the buck had in fact been killed with a gun. Reinke says someone else shot and killed the buck.
