Cartoons, some of them depicting the prophet Muhammed in sexually explicit ways, have been posted on utility poles in St. Cloud, and are leaving the community's Muslims feeling threatened. Police there are contemplating a hate crimes investigation.

The posters appear to have been downloaded from the Internet and "are clearly offensive to the Muslim community here, inappropriate and not wanted in our community," St. Cloud police Sgt. Marty Sayre told the Star Tribune.

More from the St. Cloud Times:

The posters included hand-drawn and digitally-altered photos that are derogatory toward Muslims. They included depictions of the prophet Muhammed and a swastika, among other images.
