Crime down in Minneapolis (way down)

Categories: Crime
Violent crime is down in cities across the country, according to a report the FBI released today.

Minneapolis is enjoying a particularly pronounced crime wane-- the first six months of the year saw violent crime drop 16.5 percent, compared to a 4.4 percent drop nationally over the same time period.

The murder rate decline has been especially dramatic. The MPD reported just six murders between January and June of 2009, down from 17 during the first six months of 2008.

There's been 19 homicides so far this year, compared to 36 murders at this point last year. In 2007, there were 44.
