In drinking, driving and dying, Hennepin County leads the state
Hennepin County, which includes Minneapolis, leads the state when it comes to the number of alcohol-related deaths on the road, according to figures released today by the Department of Public Safety. Ramsey County, which includes St. Paul, comes in second.
The numbers, which cover 2006-2008, are being used by DPS as a way to figure out where to concentrate stepped-up DWI highway patrols over the holidays. Hennepin County accounted for 60 deaths, 174 alcohol-related serious injuries and 23,882 DWI arrests. Ramsey saw 23 deaths, 68 injuries and 9,152 DWI arrests.
