The Minneapolis city attorneys office is now looking into whether criminal charges can be brought against the University of Minnesota's Royce White in a case involving the theft of a laptop from a student's dorm room.

"I am pleased the case is out of the police department's hands so we can move on and get some final resolution," F. Clayton Tyler, White's attorney, told WCCO. "My client absolutely did not take the laptop."

White was a Hopkins High School standout last season and a top Tubby Smith recruit for the Gophers. But he remains benched as his tangled personal and legal affairs move through legal channels. He recently pleaded guilty to misdemeanor shoplifting charges and fifth-degree assault after an incident at the Mall of America's Macy's department store.
