Just after noon today, Deb Baker, director of Rise and Shine Early Learning Center, was in the lunch area helping the kids with lunch when a thunderous crash sounded from the north Minneapolis day care's mainroom.

She and her staff arrived to an unexpected sight-- the front end of an SUV was protruding through the west wall.

The driver emerged from the cabin to explain that he had swerved to miss an errant car and lost control on the ice. WCCO reports that the driver tried to leave the scene, but was thwarted by workers. But Baker says he merely wanted to move the car after he called 911, but was told to wait until police arrived. Which he did without a fight.

Fortunately, no one was hurt. Unfortunately, the crash destroyed the center's only computers.

Four hours after the incident, Baker sounds matter-of-fact about the accident. She's still waiting to hear back as to whether or not--and for that matter whose--insurance will foot the bill.

"It's going to take away the funds for Christmas gifts for the children," she says. "So we're left with a hole in the wall and three less computers. That's about it."
