The first winter storm of the season left two people dead on Twin Cities roads in the past 24 hours.

The State Patrol says Carrie Lorman died after she braked and swerved to avoid a stalled vehicle on westbound I-94 at Dunkirk Lane on Tuesday night. The 22-year-old's 2002 Chevy Cavalier then slid down an embankment, broke through a chain link fence and overturned in a creek. The incident report described the road conditions as icy, and said Lorman's car was upside down in the water for about 25 minutes before help arrived. Hennepin County sheriff's deputies and Maple Grove police also responded to the call.

The Associated Press reported that another person died Tuesday night in a head-on collision in Prior Lake. No details have been released yet for that crash.
