Minnesotans are below average when it comes to Twitter time

Maybe it's because we don't think other people are that interested in what we have to say. Maybe it's because we're far too educated and erudite to distill our profound and complex thoughts to a mere 140 characters. Whatever it is, this Hubspot map shows that Minnesotans are below the national average when it comes to Twitter use.

Debra Crespo found yesterday in a Wisconsin court that she's going to spend the next 15 years of her life behind bars. That ought to give her plenty of time for the Kenosha woman to think about the way she ruined the life of her infant grandson, who can't walk or feed himself anymore because of the violence she visited on him.

Forget Jesus. Michele Bachmann's hot for Twitter

Thumbnail image for michelebachmanNEWUSETHIS.jpg
In the last election cycle, Democrats were generally credited with leveraging the pioneering work of 2004 presidential candidate Howard Dean to create an entire online social media ecosystem for organizers, advocates, supporters and contributors to help propel Barack Obama to the White House.

There's no presidential election this year. But there's a heated battle for control of Congress. And when it comes to the hottest social media tool -- Twitter -- a new study suggests that Republican House members are leaving their Democratic counterparts in the dust. It also shows Rep. Michele Bachmann far ahead of most of her GOP House colleagues, and all of the Minnesota delegation, when it comes to working the platform.

James O'Keefe releases explanation of "Louisiana Watergate" teabugger stunt

James O'Keefe: Pimpin' ain't easy
James O'Keefe, one of the four mopes facing serious prison time for phone pranking a U.S. senator's office (along with local boy Joe Basel), has released a statement explaining the stupid stunt.

O'Keefe claims he was tipped that some constituents (read: Ranting Teabaggers) weren't able to get the Senator's ear, so he decided to go in and check her phones.

"On reflection, I could have used a different approach to this investigation, particularly given the sensitivities that people understandably have about security in a federal building."

Problem is, whatever his intent, the actions were much the same as a foreign enemy would use to compromise national security.

Lesson: Real life isn't Jackass.

Steve Murphy likely to pass on grass bill this session

Categories: Drugs

Though the federal legalization of marijuana seems just over the hazy horizon, it looks like a statewide medicinal bill will take a backseat this legislative session.

Sen. Steve Murphy, the Minnesota Legislature's most avid supporter of medicinal marijuana, says he'll likely pass on proposing the bill this year, according to the Minnesota Daily. Murphy is apparently discouraged by our brazen governor, who has said publicly that he would quash any such bill that crosses his desk.

Pawlenty's PAC raked in $1.2 million last quarter

Categories: Politics, T-Paw
Nobody outside of Minnesota seems to knows who the hell Tim Pawlenty is, but our tax-adverse governor has nonetheless laid a solid fund raising foundation for his presidential ambitions.

T-Paw's political action committee, Freedom First, raked in $1,279,906.36 during the final three months of 2009, according to papers to be filed with the Federal Election Commission this weekend. Over 2,750 donors chipped in. You can read all about this, and more, at timpawlenty.com's "Freedom Feed." (The only reason we plug that here is because we derive a sick pleasure from retyping a phrase as hypnotic and empty and moronic as "Freedom Feed.")

Star Tribune takes a bite out of its copy desk. Spellcheck, anyone?

Thumbnail image for stribletterwide.jpg
They weren't the only people to get kicked to the curb yesterday when the Star Tribune carved another chunk out of its newsroom, but the newspaper's copy desk took the biggest hit by far. Of the 27 people let go through layoffs or buyouts, 18 were copy editors, according to Braublog.

The move was no secret. Editor Nancy Barnes told her newsroom in early January that they were coming:

Tim who? Pawlenty's an also-ran in new Newsmax poll

Thumbnail image for pawlentynewsweek (Medium).jpg
Not long ago, Tim Pawlenty told Newsweek that one of the biggest obstacles to his potential run for the White House was the fact that nobody knew who he was.

He's been trying to change that, jetting all over the country giving speeches to support fellow Republicans and their causes, offering pithy soundbites about Ponzi schemers on the Potomac and balanced budget amendments, but is the GOP base paying any attention?

A new Zogby poll sponsored by the right-wing Newsmax Web site suggests it's not.
