January rain brings Pond Hockey Championships to slushy end

Certainly not Haberman, who was forced to call off the competition because the dozens of rinks set up on Lake Nokomis for the event this weekend practically needed lifeguards by the time the rain was through.

It's really too bad. The competition represents hockey the way God intended it: Outside on ice not perfected by Zambonis, playing for the love of the sport. The three-day event in Minneapolis drew 254 teams this year from 37 states, Canada, and the UK.
