St. Paul: La Quinta Hotel party ends in murder
A party at the La Quinta Hotel in St. Paul turned deadly early Thursday, when five men assaulted a man so viciously that he died of his injuries early this morning.
The victim, a 50-year-old St. Paul man, died from head injuries shortly after 7 a.m. today. St. Paul Police were called to the La Quinta, at 1870 Old Hudson Road, at about 2:56 a.m. on Thursday, where they found the victim bruised and battered. The man was taken to Regions Hospital and admitted in critical condition, with a significant head injury. The man's name has not yet been released and is being withheld pending notification of his family.
Investigators have arrested five adult men and booked them on probable cause of first-degree assault. They are:
- William Daniel Long, age 21
- Marcus Ray Badboy, age 18
- Vincent Cody Allen Long, age 18
- Marvin Joseph Brave, age 43
- Allen Dean Brave, age 41
St. Paul police said it's unlikely the men will be charged today because there is so much investigative work left.
So far, the police investigation has indicated that more than a dozen people were having a party in one of the rented rooms at the hotel. A dispute over something minor escalated to a fight, and the suspects repeatedly punched and kicked the victim in the head and face.
This is the second homicide in St. Paul this year; it is the ninth so far for the Twin Cities. The Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office is doing the autopsy later today.
