Paige Brewer released to mother, Jonathon Sharkey rides Greyhound out of town
We caught up with Jillian Moen last night. She's the mother of 16-year-old Paige Brewer, the teenager who took up with 44-year-old self-described vampire Jonathon Sharkey last week after they met and developed a relationship through online chat forums and YouTube.
"She's in my custody and will remain so. There are no court dates at this time," Moen said via e-mail. "I am working with Hennepin county children's health to get her a referral for a facility here. She's aware she will have to go somewhere for awhile and seems accepting of it so long as its not where she was the last few days."
Sharkey, meanwhile, has filed papers to run for governor of Minnesota.
Brewer walked out on her mother six months ago and was living with her grandmother in Faribault, but she vanished with Sharkey over Valentines Day weekend. Later she was listed as an endangered runaway by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, but denied she was kidnapped or in any danger, all while hiding out with Sharkey and engaging in an epic comment war on the City Pages Web site.
Brewer claimed she was abused by her mother. Sharkey said he was trying to help the girl win legal emancipation from Moen. They stepped forward last Thursday in Faribault for a prearranged meeting with police and social workers and were separated. Sharkey left town Friday on a Greyhound bus bound for New Jersey.
"She's in my custody and will remain so," Moen said. "There are no court dates at this time however I am working with Hennepin county children's health to get her a referral for a facility here. She's aware she will have to go somewhere for awhile and seems accepting of it so long as its not where she was the last few days."
Moen, of Mound, said she won a protective order aimed at keeping Sharkey away from her and her daughter.
Brewer "is and will remain in my custody and there is no investigation being done by child protection," she said.
