An Associated Press investigation finds that District 3 freshman Republican Rep. Erik Paulsen spent $413,996.12 in taxpayer money last year to promote his activities and keep in touch with constituents back home.

That's the third highest amount spent by any member of the House of Representatives last year. Two other freshman spent more: Democratic Rep. Dina Titus, ofNevada, spent $470,059.25, and Republican Rep. Lynn Jenkins, of Kansas, spent $422,055.17. No other Minnesotan was in the Top 20 most spendy communicators, according to the report.

Paulsen's district takes in the southern, western and northern Minneapolis suburbs, including Eagan, Bloomington, Edina, Eden Prairie, Minnetonka, Excelsior, Wayzata, Plymouth, Maple Grove and Brooklyn Park.

On his Web site, he he says that as a member of the House Financial Services Committee he has been a champion of fiscal responsibility with a focus on greater transparency and accountability of taxpayer dollars.
