The primary -- and only -- suspect arrested in the wake of a house fire last week that killed 2-year-old Amir Coleman is a free man.

Khairi Coleman, 27, was released by from the Ramsey County jail after a 48 hour hold period because St. Paul police said they needed more time to build their case before bringing charges.

Amir Coleman's body was discovered on the second floor of the burned-out home at 839 Blair Avenue. Khairi Coleman is his uncle.

Police spokesman Sgt. Paul Schnell told the Pioneer Press there was sufficient probable cause to make the arrest, but forensic tests and other evidence need more time for processing.

"Witnesses reported that when they first noticed the fire it was on the porch and moments later it was up the front of the house so that was fast moving fire which is an indicator that an accelerant may have been used," St. Paul Fire Marshal Steve Zaccard told KARE over the weekend.
