A police chase that began yesterday afternoon with a hit-and-run accident at 98th Street and Grand Avenue in Bloomington, ended with a man leaping to his death from the seventh floor of the east parking garage at the Mall of America, the Star Tribune reports.

The man's name has not yet been released.

According to police, the vehicle entered the Mall of America's east parking ramp and then drove through a barricade to get the seventh level of the ramp. He drove to the south edge of the ramp and parked. When officers got out of their cars, the driver climbed onto the wall and jumped, falling to the surface lot below. The man was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he died.
