Michele Bachmann spreads rumor that Barack Obama wants to ban sport fishing
Evidently we can thank Robert Montgomery at ESPNOutdoors.com for this one: "The Obama administration will accept no more public input for a federal strategy that could prohibit U.S. citizens from fishing the nation's oceans, coastal areas, Great Lakes, and even inland waters."
That would be a big deal in the Land of 10,000 Lakes, yes? Never mind that it's poppycock -- ESPNOutdoors editor Steve Bowman later labeled it as such. But it's a great piece of red meat and it's been adopted as fact by the folks playing in right field, as MinnPost's Derek Wallbank discovered during a recent D.C. encounter with Michele Bachmann:
Bachmann asked me if I was working on any interesting stories. I told her that, oddly enough, I was doing a story on sport fishing, at which point she asked me if I'd heard that President Obama might be trying to ban sport fishing.
Glenn Beck says it's true, so it must be true:
Well, no. Elsewhere on Fox News, Joshua Miller commits journalism and finds:
Neither document contains language pertaining to a potential ban on recreational fishing, as some reports had previously asserted.
