Steven Albert Cooper, teen who open fired on fleeing convenience store workers, sentenced
Steven Albert Cooper, the teenager who open fired on two Duluth convenience store clerks as they tried to escape three years ago, has pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted first-degree murder.
On Nov. 6, 2006, a barely 15-year-old Cooper shot two Interstate-Spur convenience store workers three times each in their backs as they tried to run away. Both clerks survived the cold-blooded attack, but with severe injuries -- each still has a bullet lodged in their spine.
Now 18, Cooper was slated to stand trial next month, facing two 20-year prison sentences. He agreed to a plea this week that dropped it down to one 20-year sentence, which both victims support.
According to the Duluth News Tribune, Cooper displayed a cold demeanor in the courtroom as he admitted to the crimes.
