Ahmed Shire Ali avoids murder rap in Seward Market slayings

Ahmed Shire Ali, one of two men charged with murder in January's bloodbath at the Seward Market on Franklin Avenue, pleaded guilty today to lesser charges in Hennepin County Court: Attempted aggravated robbery. He faces a maximum of 18 years behind bars.

Ahmed Ali says his accomplice, Mahdi Ali, was the gunman in the shootings. Both were charged in January with three counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of Abdifatah Warfa, his cousin Mohamed Warfa, and Anwar Mohammed. The three Somalis were the third, fourth and fifth homicides in Minneapolis this year:
