Amy Klobuchar for U.S. Supreme Court?

U.S. Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens, a Republican in a party that's moved so far to the right that he's now considered a liberal on the court, is likely going to retire while President Barack Obama is in office. Who replaces him? That's the latest Washington parlor chatter. And one of the names that has come up is Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar -- who's already been tagged as presidential material.

Tom Goldstein brought up Klobuchar in February on his widely read SCOTUSblog. Her name has also come up on the CBS News gabfest "Face the Nation, at the National Journal and on Rachel Maddow's MSNBC show. But, leaving aside the question of whether she's qualified candidate, would Obama want to put a Democratic senator's seat in play? After all, if she were to win the nomination this year, Klobuchar's replacement would be picked by Republican Gov. Tim Pawlenty.
