Ben Garvin's photojournalism accompanies New York Times' Pulitzer
We last checked in on the story of Stephanie Smith in December, when the former children's dance instructor from Cold Spring filed a $100 million lawsuit against Minnesota-based Cargill in U.S. District Court.

Smith was horribly sickened in 2007 after eating a hamburger tainted by E.coli bacteria that was traced to a Cargill plant; her kidneys failed, she suffered seizures, doctors kept her in a medically-induced coma for months while they treated her, and she remains in a wheelchair.
Smith's story was part of a New York Times investigation in the meatpacking industry, and today it was announced that the newspaper won a Pulitzer prize for its work. There's another Minnesota tie to the award: Pioneer Press photojournalist Ben Garvin took the photographs of Smith that graced the NYT's front page and inside story.
Garvin tells MinnPost's David Brauer that he doesn't get to share in the Pulitzer glory, but he's proud to have his name associated with the paper's investigative work.
