The Minneapolis Police Federation held elections Thursday night, and Treasurer Lyall Delaney kept his post by a vote of 342 to 341.

Delaney has come under scrutiny lately inside the Minneapolis Police Department for his dual role as an MPD union representative and a lobbyist for a separate police organization that also represents the MPD, as we outlined in our story this week.

The voting went long Thursday night, but with 26 votes thrown out because of irregularities, Delaney was ahead by just one vote. And he'll carry on as the police Federation's treasurer.

The vote got a lot of attention inside the MPD. More cops voted on the union election than voted on the last contract, said Sgt. Tim Hoeppner, Delaney's opponent.
