The hearing on whether to civilly commit the man who kidnapped his former high school math teacher and repeatedly raped her 30 years ago is a wrap. Conclusion: Three psychologists agreed that Ming Sen Shiue needs sex offender treatment before he is released.

His fate will determined by a judge within the next six months.

The real shocker? Such treatment hasn't been available for the 30 years that Shiue has been incarcerated, according to the Pioneer Press. Shiue's court-appointed attorney, Rick Mattox, said in court that his client is sorry for his actions and was willing to seek treatment while in prison.

Shiue was not yet 30 when he kidnapped missionary Mary Stauffer and her 8-year-old daughter Beth, and killed a 6-year-old witness, Jason Wilkman. He was sentence to 40 years of prison, but is eligible for parole this July.

The case received widespread media attention, and was the subject of a recent book by local author Eileen Biernat.
