You know who's dancing a jig now that Ramsey County Attorney Susan Gaertner's dropping out of the DFL race for governor? The eight folks she ordered arrested a couple of years ago because they might have rattled a few cages at the 2008 Republican National Convention in St. Paul, that's who.

"Today, we declare victory, having achieved a complete shutdown of Susan Gaertner's campaign," said the Friends of the RNC 8, tongues firmly planted in cheek over their DFL delegate (lack of) influence.

"This we have accomplished whilst wading in the dark tide of the State and their attempts to crush us at every turn; the leisure and livelihood of our gentle comrades are ever disturbed by members of the self-appointed police force, a nuisance with no end in sight."

Shakespearean, almost. But will it turn into a tragedy?

Luce Guillen Givins, Max Specktor, Nathanael Secor, Eryn Trimmer, Monica Bicking, Erik Oseland, Robert Czernik and Garrett Fitzgerald are face felony charges of conspiracy to riot and conspiracy to damage property. They go to trial on Oct. 25 in St. Paul.

Gaertner has been the Ramsey County Attorney since 1994 and is the first woman to ever hold the post.
