Gopher men's basketball recruit Trevor Mbakwe, accused of assaulting a woman in the parking lot of the Florida apartment complex where they both lived in April 2009, will get his day in court on June 7.

Mbakwe was playing for Miami Dade Community College at the time. Gophers coach Tubby Smith suspended his 6-foot-8, 240 pound junior forward the entire 2009-10 Gophers season pending the outcome of the trial.

Mbakwe is a 2007 graduate of St. Bernard's High School in St. Paul. He played 11 games at Marquette University, and then moved on to Miami Dade before transferring to the University of Minnesota. During the hoops suspension, he attended classes and practiced with the team, but he did not dress for games and did not travel with the team when it played on the road.

He's the second Gopher recruit to miss the entire season owing to legal issues. Royce White quit the team in January after he pleaded guilty to shoplifting at the Mall of America.
