Iranian authorities allowed three imprisoned Americans to visit with their mothers, but turned a deaf ear to pleas for their release
The mothers of three Americans imprisoned in Iran are heading home today empty-handed, their pleas for the release of their children failing to move authorities in Tehran.

News reports say Cindy Hickey, who is from Pine City, Nora Shourd and Laura Fattal checked out their hotel and headed for the airport on Friday afternoon. Hickey's 27-year-old son, Shane Bauer, along with Sarah Shourd, 31, and Josh Fattal, 27, were taken back to their cells at Evin prison.

Bauer, Shourd and Fattal, all of whom lived and worked in the Middle East, wandered onto Iranian soil 10 months ago while on a backpacking trip in the relatively peaceful mountains of northeastern Iraq.

The mothers and their children were permitted a tearful reunion on Thursday, and a follow-up gathering on Friday, before parting.

Hickey told reporters in Iran when she arrived that she hoped she'd be able to appeal to Iranian authorities personally to release the three hikers. It doesn't sound like that meeting was allowed to take place.
