Derrick Gregory Martin's death near Lake Calhoun was gang related
Minneapolis police now say that Derrick Gregory Martin's shooting death Monday night on the Lake Calhoun bike path was part of a gang war that appears to have spilled into a normally peaceful part of the city.![]()
They found him on his hands and knees at about 11 p.m. after breaking up a party in the park adjacent to the lake, and investigating an earlier call for shots fired and windows broken at West Calhoun Parkway and 32nd Street.
Martin was from Brooklyn Park, and police say he has no connection to the neighborhood where he was shot.
His death is the 20th homicide in Minneapolis this year. Here are the others:
