Susan Mwarabu caught our attention in March for a heinous act at The Uptowner in St. Paul: Biting off a chunk of a patron's ear in a moment of drunken anger, then picking the chunk of flesh off the floor and popping it back in her mouth.

The former Northfield Middle School teacher was a tearful mess yesterday in a Ramsey County courtroom, apologizing profusely, as she learned her sentence: 60 days in jail, five years of probation and an order to knock off the booze.

The story goes that Mwarabu and some friends were making a scene at the restaurant on Grand at Lexington at about 4:30 a.m. on March 14 when a few guys at the next table threw some comments their way.

Next thing you know, Mwarabu was on her feet, walking over to one of the guys and licking his face. He pushed her away so she went to the next guy, Christopher Hough. She licked his ear, then got all Mike Tyson on him.

The cops were called. Mwarabu, who's never been in trouble with the law before, was subdued with the aid of some pepper spray and arrested.

The 30-year-old Rochester woman lost her teaching job after the charges against made headlines. She pleaded guilty in April.
