In its announcement today, the firm touted Ramstad's deep experience in tax maters -- he was a member of the influential House Ways and Means Committee, which writes taxes, and chairman of the IRS Oversight Committee.
Ramstad also knows his way around D.C.: After serving nearly a decade in the Minnesota State Senate, he served almost two decades in the U.S. House of Representatives.
He retired in 2009. Since then, Ramstad has been a resident fellow at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government, and most recently, a senior policy consultant at Hazelden, a position he retains.
Ramstad is a recovering alcoholic, and his name had been bandied about as a possible candidate to become drug czar. At one time, he was also considered a ppossible candidate for governor.
