Harrington waxes political
Retiring St. Paul police Chief John Harrington says that, as the top cop representing the whole city, "My job was not to be a politician, although I certainly got in enough political arguments.(Video after the jump.)

But when it came time to pick sides in the state Senate race to replace Mee Moua, "It was actually a very easy decision" to register as a Democrat, he tells The UpTake.

"Fundamentally what being a cop is about is being of service, taking care of people who can't take care of themselves. And that's the Democratic Party."

Incoming St. Paul police Chief Thomas Smith takes over from Harrington as chief on June 15.
