St. Paul police Chief Thomas Smith appoints new cabinet
Incoming St. Paul Police Chief Thomas Smith has hand-picked his new administration--the top brass of the police department who will set the direction and tone of the department for the next several years.

Smith takes over as chief June 15, and his appointees will begin their new roles July 3. Here are the people he has chosen:
- Commander Kenneth Reed - Assistant Chief of the Investigative Division
- Commander Robert Thomasser - Assistant Chief of the Operations Division
- Commander Kathleen Wuorinen - Assistant Chief of the Administrative Division
Reed is currently Commander of the department's Crimes Against Property Unit. He has been with the St. Paul PD since 1984. He has worked in homicide, sex crimes, emergency communications, special investigations, and narcotics. He has a master's degree from the University of Saint Thomas.
Thomasser is currently Commander of the department's Western District Patrol Division. He joined the department in 1995. He has worked as a SWAT supervisor, as an investigator, and in narcotics. He holds a master's degree from the University of Saint Thomas.
Wuorinen is currently Commander of the Department's Narcotics and Vice Units. She has been with the St. Paul PD since1988, and has worked in homicide, family violence, and internal
affairs, and served as chief of staff for John Harrington, the current chief, who is retiring. She holds a master's degree from the College of Saint Scholastica.
