All those lynchings, cross burnings, beatings and other racist terrorism evidently tickled the old funny bone among some kids at Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau High School in Galesville. They thought wearing t-shirts emblazoned with KKK-garbed lowlifes playing in a band would be an awesome last-day-of-classes gag.
Freedom of speech and that, right?
The local school superintendent said a dozen of the t-shirts were confiscated, and the owners face possible discipline including suspension when classes resume in the fall.
"It was a pretty hostile place to be if you were an African American student," which the school does have, Gunderson said.Other students did comment they found the T-shirts offensive and negative, Gunderson said, and questioned, "Why are you doing that in our school?"
