The Sunday night bulletin from Minneapolis police was bare bones: "At 8:50 p.m. patrol officers in the Fourth Precinct responded to a report of a male down in a backyard in the 2900 block of Fremont Av N. When officers and EMS arrived they found the body of a male thought to be in his later teens in the yard. The male appeared to have suffered a gunshot wound to the torso."

The male, the Star Tribune reports this morning, was Anthony Titus, who had just turned 16 years old. He's the city's 26th homicide victim this year.

Titus was hanging out in the alley behind the home when the shooting took place. His mother and friends told reports that they were sure the boy wasn't in a gang, and that the shooting wasn't gan-related -- just a kid caught in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The homicide unit is investigating. There are no suspects or arrests for now.
