Remember that story back in June about Star, the shepherd-mix dog that wandered into a Fergus Falls yard with a slit throat, apparently after being left for dead?

Police think they've found the perp: Benjamin Stavaas has been charged in Otter Tail County with two felony counts, two misdemeanors and two gross misdemeanors related to the heartless act of animal cruelty.

Star is recovering at a foster home. Stavaas has a date in court later this month. If convicted, he could be looking at two years behind bars and a $5,000 fine.

The Humane Society's Ericka Stoltenberg said the dog's mistreatment was the most horrific case she'd ever seen.
