A judge calls Denny Hecker a flight risk
Poor Denny Hecker.

His auto empire's kaput. The guy's in bankruptcy up to his eyeballs and his toys are all gone. The feds are coming after him on some major league fraud charges. He wears a court-ordrered tracking device around his ankle.

And now he can't even score a little vacation time.

Come on, he asked Federal Magistrate Susan Nelson, let me get out of town with my kids like everyone else in the summer. I want to head up north for some quality time. Kick back. Relax.

Forget it, Nelson said told him a ruling on Wednesday. You're a serious flight risk.

Via the Minneapolis / St. Paul Business Journal:

"He is not at liberty to come and go as he would like by spending vacation time in Brainerd," Nelson wrote in her order, later adding, "the pressures of trial will only exacerbate the strain from which he claims to suffer."

Spend your quality time with the kids at your Medina home instead, Nelson ruled.

Hecker's trial on federal fraud charges starts in August.
