Martin pleaded guilty to killing Sgt. Joe Bergeron
Newly-convicted cop killer Joshua M. Martin, a 21-year-old guy who was living with his mother at the time he was accused of gunning down Maplewood police Sgt. Joe Bergeron two months ago, has been sentenced to more than 35 years in prison.

He pleaded guilty today in Ramsey County District Court to aiding and abetting second-degree murder and kidnapping.

Martin was on supervised prison release when he and Jason John Jones, 21, took part in a May 1 carjacking gone bad.

Bergeron was getting out his squad car on Bruce Vento Trail in the Lake Phalen area to speak to the two suspects when one of them stepped forward and opened fire.

Later in the day, Jones was shot dead by St. Paul officer David Longbehn during a brawl.
