Tony Devon Mayo and Julius Wayne Willis charged in Lionel Franklin's murder
The two men arrested a day after Lionel Franklin's murder in downtown Minneapolis have now been charged in his death. Tony Devon Mayo and Julius Wayne Willis Jr. face one count each of murder in the second degree. The two men are being held at the Hennepin County jail on $750,000 bail.![]()
According to the complaint:
Franklin and a friend were walking on First Ave when they encountered defendants Mayo and Willis Jr. Franklin and friend asked both of them about a fight they had been in earlier in the week. Mayo became angry and pilled out a can of mace and started spraying both Franklin and his friend. Once Franklin and his friend were disabled, Willis Jr approached Franklin and stabbed him in the chest. Franklin was transported to Hennepin county medical Center where he died a short while later.
Police found Franklin at about 11:45 p.m. in the parking lot on the corner of 8th Street and 1st Avenue N., a stone's throw from the First Avenue nightclub and the Target Center. His death was the 25th homicide in Minneapolis this year.
