William T. Hurley now has 180 days in the workhouse to think about the wisdom of beating a boy so badly that the 10-year-old hid in an oven, an oven that Hurley then turned on in order to flush the kid out so he could resume the abuse.

Hurrley was sentenced today after being found guilty in June. Besides punching and whipping his girlfriend's 11-year-old son, he burned him with a hot iron. Even after cops arrived, Hurley kept up the craziness when the cops arrived, hreatening to beat the kid in front of officers.

Prosecutors said the mother, Debra D. Chatman, knew her son was being beaten by Hurley and pulled him back into the house when he tried to escape the attack. She , too, was found guilty in June. She told police she afraid of what might happen to her 6-year-old and 1-year-old, who were also in the home, if she stood in Hurley's way.

She's due to be sentenced in August.
