​The Minnesota Vikings and its loyal fans may be excited about the prospect of Brett Favre returning to helm the team, but Sports Illustrated hasn't given into the hype. It's predecting the Green Bay Packers will be NFC champs, and QB Aaron Rodgers will walk away as league MVP.

​Minnesota government agencies have been ordered by Gov. Tim Pawlenty not to participate in any of the discretionary benefits contained in federal health care overhaul legislation passed by Congress and signed by President Barack Obama earlier this year.

So in case you were hoping for a break on your medical costs any time soon, forget it. The governor says you can't have it.

State Fair electricity down after truck hits powerline

​At least two people did not have a good time at The Great Minnesota Get-Together today.

Just after 10:30 a.m., a semi-truck rammed a telephone pole near the State Fairgrounds in St. Paul. Details of the accident are few, but police don't believe the driver had been drinking, says St. Paul Police spokesman Andy Skoogman.

​It's official: The Duluth City Council voted unanimously last night to ban the sale of K2 and other forms of synthetic marijuana marketed as incense.

With the vote, Duluth becomes the first city in Minnesota to ban the synthetic smokeables.

Tom Emmer fights to a tie in latest governor's race poll

​Republican Tom Emmer has consistently trailed his Democratic opponents in governor's polls over the past few months. And lately he's been the butt of attacks over his drunken driving convictions and his support from Target.

So today must feel like a victory of sorts: He has pulled even with Democratic opponent Mark Dayton in a new Minnesota Public Radio News and Humphrey Institute poll. Independence Party candidate Tom Horner once again trails in a distant third.

​Tim Pawlenty has opted to take grant money from a federal law he wants repealed.

The money is for programs dismissed by the state as ineffective.

And he picked a grant that requires $379,000 in state matching funds, while the state is already drowning in red ink.

The Lego Mall of America store is rebuilding
​Despite what it may look like, the Lego store at the Mall of America hasn't fallen apart. It's just rebuilding.

The store/awesome free kiddie playground darkened its doors two weeks ago, leaving small children and adult nerds going into Lego withdrawal. The four story monument to plastic and primary colors has been stripped to the studs and hidden behind yellow slabs of sheet rock.
