Maureen Reed was showered with Minneapolis campaign funds
The DFL doctor who wanted to take on congresswoman Michele Bachmann lost to Tarryl Clark and dropped out of the race two months ago. But now we've learned that she tops the list for the most contributions from people in Minneapolis--who aren't even in her district.
Maureen Reed feels the Minneapolis love
The 6th Congressional District is Bachmann territory. Minneapolis lies in the 5th Congressional District, Keith Ellison land. Minneapolis residents gave their own congressman a paltry $74,130. What's up with that?
Smart Politics analyzed 14,500-plus itemized contributions to U.S. House candidates across the state, and concluded that Minneapolis residents gave about 20 percent of the money--a little over a million bucks. About 20 percent of that money--or $266,000--went to Reed.
But with Ellison a sure bet in November, Minneapolis politicos evidently are sending their funds to fight Bachmann. The city's DFL-ers gave almost as much money to Clark, whose Minneapolis money totals $200,006, according to the Smart Politics report.
Poor Elwin Tinkleberg, whose campaign never got off the ground this time around, got only six donations--a lousy 250 bucks.
