Tim Pawlenty takes a stand against immigrant babies

• This issue is not fringe. Fringe are the idiots that want invaders offspring to become automatic citizens. Citizenship should only be passed to children of citizens or legal residents after they become citizens. Citizenship is not a cheap worthless status to be given to criminals invading our nation. The 14th amendment was misinterpreted to allow anchor babies, the writers of this amendment did not intend it to be used this way. The writings of those who wrote the 14th amendment prove this to be true. "Those subject to the jurisdiction" does not mean foreigners here on vacation etc. If we are detained in a foreign nation, we contact the embassy of the nation who we are under the jurisdiction of. If we visit Mexico, we are not under the jurisdiction of Mexico. If we commit crimes anywhere in the world, we can be arrested by the government where we commit the crime, this does not put our entire lives under their jurisdiction. Lets say if China sent every woman about to give birth to the USA for a short vacation. Millions come to give birth and we made them citizens. After 10 years they would have enough children who were citizens of the USA to bring their entire family and overthrow our government. This was not the intention of the amendment misinterpretation will lead to societal/national suicide. Making the children of criminal invaders citizens is insane.

Earl, there are also "anchor brides and anchor grooms" that do what they do for the expressed purpose of becoming citizens. That part of the amendment was not written to be abused the way it clearly is today, it was in special consideration for circumstance. Therefore, it should be re-written.

• I think that the argument for born citizenship in this country is one that needs to be amended.Some of my family have been in this country since they crossed a land bridge to get here. Other parts of it have been here since the 1700's and others the 1800's. I know I have a right to be here. A lot has changed since then. As the world has moved forward we are still on same page as we were over a hundred years ago and it is not the same issue. There have been numerous and still are prejudices against one group of people or another. The issue now is one of money and control of our population. We are the only country I can think of that allows a legal act to become a reason for someone getting to stay here illegally. Commen sense tells us that the the 14th is not meant nor interpreted the same now as when it was written. When someone uses a law to commit an illegal act and they are protected because you can't seperate the mother from the child then it's time to rethink it. The cost to the taxpayers is becoming more unbearable every year we stall on getting things right. Our local police in Alabama and throughout the country are underfunded as it is and then throw in the immigrant problem and it becomes more so. If you look at the immigration laws there is no recourse to this problem. The politicos don't want to tick off this group and that group yet shit on the ones that pay the taxes and have a right to be in this country. I would be more worried about the ones with the right to vote if I were them. Do we continue to allow this problem or do we find a solution that is fair and equitable. The constitution has been rewritten in the past and it will be again. I would bet the bigotry would come out if they were all to move to your neighborhood and set up house. I see it now where I live. I consider myself a moderate liberal and on this issue I find myself to be conservative. Go figure! I would bet the farm that over fifty percent of true US citizens would say the same.

He jumped on bush's band wagon and it cost him the election. Pawlenty is jumping on the tea baggers express and he will go the same route. But this is what happens when you sell your soul.

• I am suprised no one is bringing up the fact that Pawlenty was born in Cananda and cannot run for President according to our Constituion. (Unless Pawlenty wants to change that provision too. He might get support from Obama for that one as it's well known Obama was born in Africa.)

• Down here in Texas, our economy is still good, but slowly eroding in the face of waves of illegal immigration. Every jurisdiction in the State now has "adult" high schools to teach the children of illegals who showed up at age 16, utterly illiterate in any language, who we are required by law to educate until their 21st birthday. That's at a taxpayer cost of around 10 grand per year per student. Can you seriously argue that that isn't an enormous drain on an economy? Not with a straight face you can't. The DISD is hiring spanish interpreters for almost every class. So, teacher salary plus bilingual interpreter...taxpayer costs driven even higher AND citizen children educated to a far lower standard because of the wasted administrative effort of trying to teach millions who don't understand the language of instruction. Our kids aren't getting "The Illiad" , they are getting "See Spot Run" because half the class never went to school until the age of 10. Gee, that can't be an economic drag, either. I have a cousin who is a high school principal here in Texas. He says he cannot even being to plan the number of students who will show up every year. Regardless of money or facilities, they have no choice to "educate" those kids, most of whom are illiterate in both Spanish and English. He works in a lower middle class-working class district. Guess whose kids are getting the short end of that stick? Young, mostly black and white working class children for whom a decent education is THE ONLY WAY OUT OF THE WORLD OF MCWALMART! Now, that opportunity is being stolen from those children by people who have no right to be here in the first place and by the thugs in our government; one side who wants an illiterate mob of peasants to herd into the voting booth and one side who wants cheap, peasant labor for their hedge fund buddies. A plague on both their houses. Our county hospitals are doling out 100s of millions per year in OB-GYN services alone to illegals who have no intention of paying the bill ever. (the last number I remember was 300 million for ONE county hospital in Dallas)So, do you think the medicine fairy pays those bills? No, taxes/prices go up and services get cut. Imagine some poor, black single mom who gets hurt on the job, or has a sick child but can't get a county clinic appointment because there are 200 unemployed illegals on the list that day? That's happening here every. single. day. We can't make more doctors or more nurses overnight, so guess who suffers? Those least able to protect themselves. Want people to be able to find a job that pays well or even fairly? Then oppose illegal immigration with every fiber of your being. Drag the bottom of the wage scale down and two things happen; higher citizen unemployment (raising taxes and or budget deficits) AND lower pay for the most vulnerable citizens! Hooray! One of the most important reasons that WalMart can pay slave wages and offer no benefits is that millions of blue-collar skilled labor jobs that used to pay good wages and offer the protection of health, life, and PTO benefits are now staffed mostly by illegals. How are we going to replace those middle class jobs? Maybe everyone can go to brain surgeon school? We know where they are landing...WalMart..for $8/hour. Down here in Texas we are losing our working middle class to illegal immigration. Straight up gone. Over. You think you have it good up there in Minnesota because it is still 90% White and English speaking. You think your state can't become a third world hellhole like huge parts of mine have? Think again, because out of the 6 billion people on the planet about 5 billion of them would rather live here. Half of Mexico would live here if they could. If you think it will just be Arizona, Texas, and California bearing this burden you are out of your mind. Your day is coming and you better hope someone has the guts to stand up and protect your workers and your rights to live in a sane society that can plan, budget, and make realistic projections about the near future. Erase that, and you destabilize the very underpinnings of Civilization itself. Look around the world, most of it is horrible. Do you want your kids to grow up in a country that resembles El Salvador, or one that resembles the one your grandparents left to you? Stop calling them immigrants. They are illegal immigrants. They broke the law to come here and are stealing from every citizen, and from every person who is immigrating according to the law. When your education system is a complete sink hole, when your public health services are broke and broken, when you see huge cuts in libraries, police and fire protection, when you see rising unemployment and lower wages, you can thank the people who supported this misinterpretation of the 14th amendment that grants instant citizenship and has created a criminal gold rush on our country.

The amendment goes on to mention that states cannot alter this at all. It then explicitly asks congress, and we can assume they meant future congressional bodies as well, to uphold the law. In keeping with the spirit of the constitution, and the spirit of the law, it is reasonable to assume that no part of the amendment was geared towards protecting our borders. Borders of such rigidity and length did not exist at the time, they were lines on a map not lines in the sand. Had the Framers recognized that the lines on maps and the lines in the sand would turn into fences in the sand to keep unwelcome citizens out, they would surely have agreed with states like AZ. After all, we were the first british colonies to rebel, odds were good that the british would have a colony near us again, and that we would definitely want to keep them on their side of the fence. Come to Ohio, Tim Pawlenty, people of like minds. We need more like you.

This will not, of course, include persons born in the United States who are foreigners, aliens, who belong to the families of ambassadors or foreign ministers accredited to the Government of the United States, but will include every other class of persons. It settles the great question of citizenship and removes all doubt as to what persons are or are not citizens of the United States. This has long been a great desideratum in the jurisprudence and legislation of this country."

• America is a country founded wholly on immigration, and the slaughter of the indigenous population. I don't see how this guy's argument works. An immigrant baby has as much right to the US as anyone else, since it was never your country in the first place. The argument totally holds water everywhere else in the world, but not in the US.
