Carleton, Macalester rated among nerdiest U.S. campuses
Harvard, Yale and Dartmouth eat your hearts out. Some of the biggest college brains in the country, who go to class just for the sheer delight of exercising their cerebral cortex, can be found at Carelton and Macalester colleges.
Carleton College, where nerds rule.
Rating website Unigo arrived at that conclusion after hearing from 30,000 undergraduates around the country.
Students at Carleton described their campus life as too busy to do much of anything besides debate the theory of relativity, toss a Frisbee and marvel at so many wealthy Midwesterners. They also like to dress up buildings as "Star Wars" droids. That's nerdy for you.
At Macalester, there's a fondness for ducking talk about the real-world job market and what a chore it is to get off campus to discover real people. "It really is a model for a liberal arts institution, where intangible skills and thinking are emphasized more than jobs, unless you are an economics major," one student says.
Now on the other hand, if you want hook up, your closest best bet is Madison. The University of Wisconsin is rated among the Top 10 schools where everyone gets "lucky." It's also a place where "Animal House" is considered tame.
