Heidi Collins of CNN replaces Robyne Robinson at Fox 9
Fox 9 has been without a permanent second evening news anchor since May, when Robyne Robinson unexpectedly and controversially quit her post next to Jeff Passolt to run for lieutenant governor and then build her jewelry business.
Heidi Collins joins Fox 9.
Today, the station announced that CNN's Heidi Collins, a Mounds View High School alum, has won the spot. Collins left CNN in January.
"I'm thrilled to be joining FOX 9," Collins said in a press release. "I can't believe I'm getting the chance to go back home to Minnesota and continue doing what I love. I look forward to this next chapter in my career."
Collins is a seasoned pro, with Peabody, duPont, Associated Press and three Edward R. Murrow awards on her mantle. She also got President George W. Bush to fess up about his ill-advised cowboy talk in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks:
"I regret saying some things I shouldn't have said. Like 'dead or alive' and 'bring 'em on.' My wife reminded me that, hey, as president of the United States, be careful what you say."
And she got him to talk about that "Mission Accomplished" PR blunder:
"They had a sign that said 'Mission Accomplished.' It was a sign aimed at the sailors on the ship, but it conveyed a broader knowledge. To some it said, well, Bush thinks the war in Iraq is over, when I didn't think that. But nonetheless, it conveyed the wrong message."
