Minneapolis declared one of the safest cities for kids in America
Sleep easy, Minneapolis parents. Your children are bedding down in one of the safest cities in the United States. Underwriters Laboratories, the outfit that bestows that little "UL" symbol on everything from light bulbs to lasers, says so.![]()

It just published a study of 50 cities that looked at 25 criteria including crime rates, air quality, drowning reports, ambulance response times and bike helmet usage, and came up with this Top 10:
- Boston, Mass.
- Columbus, Ohio
- Louisville, Ky.
- Minneapolis, Minn.
- New York, N.Y.
- Portland, Ore.
- San Francisco, Calif.
- Seattle, Wa.
- Tampa, Fla.
- Virginia Beach, Va.
Fortunately it has a low number of pedestrian accidents, fire and burn rates. Minneapolis also emerged as the leading combatant of "the silent killer," carbon monoxide. Minnesota's "Carbon Monoxide Detector Law" requires that all single family homes have a carbon monoxide alarm.
Now there's a good bedtime story.
