A 55-year-old man was struck and killed by a Quicksilver Express Courier truck on 1st Avenue at 5th Street N. in downtown Minneapolis on Monday, after the truck made a right turn in front of the bike.

About a dozen police officers blocked off the intersection in front of The Loon Cafe as they investigated the scene in a light drizzle right before rush hour.

Both the truck and the driver were heading south when the truck turned right and hit the bike rider.

It's the first time there's been a fatal accident involving a bicycle rider since 1st Avenue became a two-way street about a year ago.

The rider's name isn't known yet. The accident happened at about 2:30 p.m.

The investigation prevented Light Rail trains traveling east to west from reaching the Target Field station.
