Michele Bachmann was for the stimulus while she was against it

Bachmann: Saddling our kids with the fedeal debt is OK when she does it.
Remember the Fox News gabfests, the D.C. rallies and the campaign ads where Michele Bachmann brags about voting against President Barack Obama's stimulus bill? Too much federal spending, she says.

Turns out she had her hand out at the same time. Saddling our kids with the federal debt is OK when she does it.

The Center for Public Integrity and MinnPost have published her letters to U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood and other federal agency leads, supporting stimulus funding for projects in her district, including $300 million for a new bridge over the St. Croix river near Stillwater.

Letters from other Minnesota lawmakers were published, including from GOP Reps. and stimulus critics John Kline and Erik Paulsen. Democratic Sen. Amy Klobuchar, and Reps. Keith Ellison, Betty McCollum, Jim Oberstar, Collin Peterson and Tim Walz, who supported the stimulus, also sought support for district projects.

The letters ask for cash from Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) discretionary grants -- money for shovel-ready infrastructure cash infusions -- made available through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

The Bachmann letters stand out because while she has incessantly ripped the stimulus bill as a failure, she also claims in her letter that the St. Croix River project could create almost 3,000 new jobs.

And by her own design, she is the queen of the Tea Party Caucus, the official "earpiece" of teabaggers on Capitol Hill.

Yet she's not listening. Rob Gaudet, national coordinator for the Tea Party Patriots, tells MinnPost he's ripped at the hypocrisy of Bachmann and GOPers. Republicans "should be fighting against it with every fiber of their elected beings," he says.

Bachmann says the hypocrisy is fine:

"It is my obligation as a member of Congress to ensure stimulus dollars are spent on the most worthy projects. I did just that when I supported applications for the TIGER grant program."

The stimulus bill, then, is wasteful spending, except when Bachmann says it is not wasteful spending. So much for restoring intregrity in Washington.

Here she is, hammering opponent Tarryl Clark by suggesting that Clark would support the "failed" Obama stimulus -- the same stimulus for which Michele Bachmann had her hand out.
