Ronald Harold Moore and Carlos Maurice Harris were formally charged today in Wednesday's pistol whipping and robbery at an Uptown Dunn Bros coffeehouse.

Moore, 47, and Harris, 38, each face one felony count of first degree aggravated robbery and two counts of kidnapping in Hennepin County Court. The kidnapping charges alone could carry a 40-year sentence for each man if convicted.

We talked to one of the victims last night for a first-person account of the robbery, on the condition we not use her name or identifying personal details.

"It was at the very end of our shift, about seven minutes before we closed, and a guy walked in and said, 'Can I get a caramel mocha?'" the barista said. "He just walked behind the counter and pulled out a gun and said, 'Get down on the floor.'"

Police say it was Moore who ordered the coffee and pulled out the gun.

After emptying the cash register, he and Harris demanded to know where there was more money.

"My coworker said, 'There isn't any more.'" The barista said. "He hit her in the side of the head with butt of his gun and said, 'I'm not playing, bitch, I will fucking shoot you!'"

Terrified, they took the two men to a back-room safe. Police say Moore told Harris to tie the baristas up, and then, as the two men escaped, Moore went out of his way to step on their heads.

Police caught up with Moore at Lake Street and Irving on foot, retraced his escape route and found a gun and a bag of money. Other officers spotted Harris running east on Lake Street toward Holmes Avenue. They nabbed him as he tried to climb over a fence.

Harris, of Falcon Heights, and Moore, of Inver Grove Heights, have a number of prior assault, disorderly conduct and robbery convictions between them in Hennepin, Dakota and Washington counties.
