Heidi Collins goes nuts on Mark Ritchie on Fox9

• Absolutely right John. There is no logical reason not to want every voter properly identified unless your fear that your side won't win, in which case you may have to pull out some "lost ballots." What a crock. Liberals are far more concerned with winning at all costs, than with having a fair election.

• Tom, you're a 100% certified moron. ACORN doesn't affect us? Are you an imbecile? Federal taxes were supporing ACORN you dolt. That means every single American tax payer is affected.

• She was a attack dog on CNN, on the air with Tony Harris I dreaded watching a grouch in the early morning, then they split up the hour and she finally left. She is most likely the same way with her hubby, she seems to have a problem with men, she should work on that...

• Great interview. A known strategy of politicians is too talk so much that the interviewer can't get in the questions that are important to the voters. Richie was doing that here. He dances around the answers like a pro. I can easily see how the unintelligent could be easily brainwashed into believing him and voting for him as well.

• She needed to interupt him. This is a habit that mainly Democrats have of blathering on and talking over others. Almost anyone would lose their cool when faced with a hostile interview like Mark Richie. fg

• Sorry, am not buying the argument that she was asking "tough questions" here... Her questions were childish and her accusation that somehow Mark Ritchie was personally responsible for this close election is reprehensibleness. She was projecting her bullying, right-wing rhetoric that we expect from the FOX network, and that Fox9 News must have been hoping to emulate. She deserves every ounce of criticism she's getting here. And I know they have lost a lot of viewers over this. It still makes me feel sick to watch her.

• I don't see any thing wrong with asking difficult questions and pressing for a clear answer when the subject seems to be getting too verbose in his or her reply. Sometimes it's necessary to interrupt when they start answering the question that they wish the reporter would have asked rather than the uncomfortable question that was actually asked.

• Whatever... Mark Ritchie tried to take over the conversation without having to give a real answer. I'm glad she took back control of the conversation to try and get the questions answered, which politicians (both sides of the isle) always try to side step by spuing long drawn out answers that don't answer the questions being asked. More reporters should be just like she was, cut to the facts and get the answers. I was watching last night and they did a long segment on donkey basketball. Where's the coverage when it matters? That's what I'd like to know.

• So then it's all just rhetoric? There's no meat on those bones? I'm a little disappointed, was hoping to read up on it today, slow day at work. Do you at least have any stats on how many people register using the vouching method? Or maybe you can explain to me how it's impossible to prove fraud, or how once a person has voted without ID, it is impossible to prove they are not a citizen of Minnesota or the US? That doesn't make any sense to me. We should be proud of our registration/voting system here. We showed the country in 2008 that recounts can be completed fairly and in a bipartisan manner. We are a role model that other states look up to. Would you rather we be like Ohio or Florida? If you answer yes, maybe you should move to one of those places.

• "Bobby" uses the same canard that all who want to preserve the current system - that we must "prove" voter fraud. While logically correct (one cannot prove that fraud did NOT occur)the real problem is that once a person has voted without ANY ID, as is currently legal in Minnesota, then it becomes impossible to prove that they are NOT a citizen of Minnesota, let alone of the United States, or a convicted felon. Unless we get POSITIVE VOTER ID - and eliminate "vouching" - proving fraud is virtually impossible.

• Alright, enough rhetoric. If you have proof that Mark Ritchie (and ONLY Mark Ritchie) either committed fraud or let fraud occur without stopping it in the 2008 recound, make with it. Lets see your evidence.

• First off I totally agree this woman was shrill and her attack dog manner was pointless and complete pandering, it didn't really seem to help get answers. What it WAS good for though is that, at least anyone who understands how to conduct an interview, Richie DID tend to drone on, quite a bit in fact. While I detest Fox news and I often see a lot of bias in them, would anyone really want anyone to get away with having such long winded answers to questions? Many of Richies answers seemed more to stall than really thoroughly explain a topic (most mind you, not all). So yeah, I never really like this kind of interview style and she definitely could have done a better job of keeping Richie on point rather than tangenting off in terms of coming off as an icy rude person, but I do think Richie interviews like a robot with never ending answers too.

• Mr. Kumpula, have you not noticed in this state "We don't take kindly to actual news" Minnesota nice means looking the other way and ignore the elephant in the room mentality. Just because Mr. Ritchie is always caught up in fraud, dirty tricks, questionable ethics, and forgetting his glasses, is no reason question him about it. You expect the mush minds of this state to think through a question for themselves? The UofM couldn't teach a course on journalism if it had to or critical thought. Two of the reasons NOT to send your child to that school. They are only capable of teaching to be a mindless drone devoid of critical thought. The faculty at the U is no better just going through the motions for tenure not rocking the boat. That is why you will never see any other media person in this town take elected officials to task. They never question authority, and know how to kiss body parts to move onto better venues. Critical thought and real journalism would involve CITY PAGES actually looking into what Mr. Ritchie is involved in! That will NOT happen.

• Why is it so terrible that a journalist actually does their job and asks tough questions? Given the humiliating fiasco Minnesota went through with Coleman v. Franken in 2008, tough questioning was appropriate, especially since both the Secretary of State and Attorney General have declined to be open to these direct questions in the past. As for Ms. Collins, she has done the service with the media purportedly provides: public accountability of politicians by asking direct, substantive answers on issues of concern to citizens. The only reason people are going nuts over this is because they would prefer Richie not answer for his actions in 2008, that he not be held accountable for the fraud that allowed Franken to moves into the US Senate. If Collins had been interviewing a Republican, she would have been equally persistent in getting her questions answered and there would not be any sort of "outcry" by these fringe groups supporting Richie.

• Shut the fuck up about ACORN. It never affected you and you don't give a shit about it other than to use it as ammunition against politicians that you already don't like. Cut the crap.

My agenda is to get people to act civil towards each other, regardless of political beliefs. My agenda is to get people to stop focusing on talking points and start focusing on reality. You do realize there are vote count errors in EVERY election, right? We only hear about the changes to the totals in close races, but that doesn't mean all other elections that don't end in recount are error free.

• John - The burden of proof is on your side. Make with the evidence of fraud already. I'm all ears. As is, it sounds like the same type of language I hear from conspiracy theorists. I am not sure you understand what a talking point is. A talking point would be something like tying Mark Ritchie to Acorn. The concept behind a talking point is that if enough people say it, simple minded folks will start to believe it. It is clearly an effective method, just look at all the people who believe Obama is a Muslim or not American. A terribly biased interview might start with a question about a talking point that one party uses in an attempt to de-legitimize the other. That's not journalism, and that is absolutely not the job of a fair and balance news anchor.

• Well done, Heidi! One need only recall the "found" ballots in the Franken/Coleman election to remember many elections are more than highly questionable. When an agenda goes against the beliefs of the majority, whether here in MN or elsewhere, desperate tactics can often rule. This is why 'liberal' judges are so dangerous to liberty. Nothing at all wrong with what Heidi is saying. In fact, if it bothers you, what is YOUR agenda,and what are you so afraid of??

• As for the interview, the FOX reporter simply did what no one at WCCO or the other liberal biased networks do - she tried to get him to answer the questions. Liberals have had a monopoly on the media for so long, that when any network (like FOX) actually does their job, they are assailed as "right wing," in spite of the fact that FOX has more 5 times as many liberal contributors than any of the major networks have conservative contributors and/or anchors. And Ritchie insisted on repeating talking points about "counting ballots" but never dealt with the primary question: How do we know WHO IS VOTING? When anyone can walk up on voting day with up to 15 friends (none of whom have identification) and "vouch" for them as "living with me" - we DO have a problem. Worse, these same 15 people can then be bussed to another precinct, and another, each time being vouched for by a voter who lives in that precinct. And what does it take? With 4000 precincts, Dayton only needed 2 VOTES per precinct to have the lead he has so far. Without POSITIVE VOTER ID we will continue to have these issues - that's why 80% of Americans want it. The other 20% have only one reason to oppose it - they want to be able to cheat.

• MarvLS - How did Ritchie's scheme get past all those Pawlenty appointed judges then? You guys are paying too much attention to the talking points I think. You can't see the forest for the trees. Thankfully, 2008 in Minnesota had nothing in common with the absolute injustice that was Florida 2000. The recount was done properly and fairly, with bipartisan supervision. If you have any proof of your claims, please post some links so I can read about them. In the meanwhile take your talking points somewhere else because I don't think people here are stupid enough to believe them.

• Obviously Heidi had an agenda. She was rude and very unprofessional right from the start with how she would interupt Mark Richie. I had to laugh at her when she jumped all over him about her being able to ask the questions and him just answering. Well Heidi, how about letting Mark Richie answer BEFORE rudely interupting him with your next question?? Even if you disagree with him or just plain don't like him for some reason, you need to be a lot more professional than what you were. You let yourself and your viewers down.

• Mark Ritchie is a crook. He is connected with ACORN (which was not "smeared"- the allegations were true), the George Soros SoS project and other Left-Wing groups whose goal is to get Democrats elected at any cost - even if it means stealing elections. The Franken theft was exactly what they tried and failed to do in 2000. The Democrats have a history of vote fraud which dates back far earlier than all those dead people in Chicago who elected JFK in 1960. We can expect this kind of sleazy activity from the average DFL foot-soldier, but not from a Secretary of State. There are still 17,000 ballots which WERE counted (Bobby) in the 2008 election but have NOT been reconciled to the registration roles. (Franken "won" by about 300. 17,000 unconfirmed ballots and a "winner" "wins" by 300???) Mark Ritchie is a criminal who belongs in jail. It's funny how lefties get all out of whack (actually I doubt this "outrage" at Collins is real, it's probably just another Left-wing character assassination campaign) when one of theirs faces tough questioning from someone in the media - people on the other side of the aisle get treated like this all the time.

• Tim, you are very confused. We must not have been watching the same interview because Heidi opened with a question about a partisan attack and when Ritchie was trying to tell her that he was above that kind of thing and that she should also be, she interrupted him very rudely. If less people voted for Emmer or more for Dayton, we wouldn't be in this mess at all. The election would be over and done with. To blame this recount on Ritchie is asinine. The last recount exposed many ballots that should not have been counted, and so they were not counted in the recount. Why would you expect this one would be any different?

• Typical Minnesotans excepting below par service from our politicians, but willing to spend millions of there hard earned dollars in tax dollars to recount ballets that are suspect in the first place. Richie acts as if his only problem with the election is the accuracy of count, doing nothing to insure what his is counting are all legal ballets. 90% of the problem is the huge loop holes he allows to exist in the Minnesota voting system for fraudulent voting to occur (by anyone republicans, democrates or independents a like). Heide tried her best to get Richie to answer the questions directly without all the politcal run around and rambling on about MN nice. We are nice, but nice doesn't have to mean we are stupid.

• What an embarrassment! It's hard to believe this actually aired. Why are there people blaming Mark Ritchie for another recount? What did he have to do with it? It's state law, he follows it just like he should. Mark and all other politicians should be held accountable by the media. Grilling him about unfounded attacks from a hyper-partisan opponent is not holding someone accountable, it's being a lackey for the opponent. The fact is our state had a very fair and well run recount in 2008. Many of the judges over looking the process were appointed by Tim Pawlenty. We should be proud that other states look up to us as a model of fairness and transparency. Instead, we have the losing side STILL butt hurt about it 2 years later and making the same exact complaints. Gimme a break!

• Franken-Coleman recount had over 3,000 felons vote, some now convicted. The Dems Prosecutors in Henn / Ramsey convicted a few for show. With 300 vote difference Coleman - Franken Fraud widespread. Crow wing county reported many from state hospital not standing and voting - their attendant voted for them while patient was walking around. SOROS SOS project put this idiot into our State office, Mark Richie an ACORN Lobbyist. Wow you partisians are full of shit, stupid, fat and ugly. We need to take the money out. If you can't vote for a person you can't donate to them - period end of story. That will clean this up.

• What Heidi clearly missed is how Mark Ritchie managed a very difficult and long process in a very fair, honest, and non-partisan way during the Franken-Coleman recount. Certainly, any lessons learned in that process are being applied now. This guy was re-elected because he was doing his job very well and according to all the applicable rules and procedures which are there so the results are fair and accurate. Whatever she is trying to accuse him of doing is just way off base and not accurate..she needs to re-check her information!

• Did anyone else watch her on election night? She said that a photo ID and utility bill were not sufficient to register to vote, she claimed that her husband could not vote without providing a passport (in addition to the utility bill and drivers license) to prove his citizenship. At first I thought that was just bad reporting, but after watching this clip I wonder if she wasn't trying to scare people away from voting booths in the metro area.

I was able to get through that horribly uncomfortable " I ask,you answer" line but just lost it after she seemed to say that because it was a close vote there was fraud involved. They are state officers who simply decide cases within that geographic jurisdiction. So the government of "Hennepin County" will not be included on the panel in any way shape or form. • Re: 2010 DAYTON/EMMER recount. We watched this interview on the news last night and were shocked by the unprovoked "rabid" attitude of Fox news anchor, Heidi Collins, toward Minnesota Secretary of State, Mark Ritchie. When the state of Minnesota conducted the past recount of the Franken/Coleman election, the process was handled in a nonpartisan and professional manner, as per state law. For Tony Sutton (chairperson for the MN Republican party), and Hedi Collins (local Fox news anchor) to now infer otherwise, is simply sour grapes.

• She's not out of line at all. She's a News Anchor, they are supposed to ask questions that people need answers to. If people don't want to answer the question, maybe their uncomfortable, what does that say? Maybe they're trying to hide something. It lets viewers make up their own mind. Crying foul is garbage, guess what people?! Not everybody has the same views! When your views are agreed with...great. When they arent...don't cry about it.

• Puh-lease: I'm not talking about a specific contest. You're using a rhetorical straw man: you claim I say something and then knock it down. That dog don't hunt. I am talking about general, overall incompetence. Mark Ritchie just doesn't seem to care if Minnesota's electoral process works properly or not. That's the way Alinskyites like Ritchie roll. • I was shocked watching this interview. It was like a total personality change. I dont know if she felt she had to show her stuff since she is a new anchor, but it was almost like an interrogation : "I ask. you answer" Good Grief. It was so uncomfortable to watch.

• Nobody who actually knows what they're talking about - that excludes lunatics like Matt Vadum and Heidi Collins - has had any complaint or criticism of Ritchie's recount in the Coleman/Franken recount. Only completely partisan imbiciles have any problem with the way Ritchie handled the recount.
