Police say Jason Yang climbed over a chain link fence and jumped to his death.
Minneapolis homicide and internal affairs units are investigating what may have prompted Jason Yang of West St. Paul to leap to his death after running from police outside the Epic nightclub early Saturday morning.

MPD spokesman Sgt. William Palmer said 1st Precinct officers were responding to a fight outside the club in the 100 block of 5th Street North downtown when the chase began.

After trying to lose the cops in a nearby parking ramp, the 28-year-old man ran out onto the I-394 off-ramp, climbed over the hurricane fencing and jumped a concrete barrier to the ground to a parking field below.

Palmer said it was the equivalent of jumping about two floors, and the man was dead by the time paramedics arrived on the scene near Target Field.

Update: The Hennepin County Medical Examiner called Yang's death and accident, and listed his cause of death as coming from multiple blunt force injuries.

The five officers who were in proximity to the man when he jumped are being offered standard three day administrative leave due to the traumatic circumstances involved.
